Botox is a medication used as a muscle relaxant to ease symptoms of Temporomandibular Disorders, bruxism and for cosmetic purposes. TMD is a collective term for the muscle and joint symptoms that commonly arise when there are pain and dysfunction such as chronic headaches and jaw pain.
Botox has been demonstrated as an alternative treatment for TMD and associated jaw tension and pain. When injected into the facial and chewing muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort, Botox relieves the pain and tension for many patients. The injections often eliminate headaches resulting from teeth grinding, and in cases of severe stress.
